Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator David Vitter (R-La.), today released the following statement upon the passage of the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act of 2015 (CARA) through the U.S. Senate by a vote of 94 to 1.

"It's a heart-wrenching fact that over 100 overdose-related deaths occur every day in this country, and it will take a comprehensive approach to reverse the trend of our nation's drug abuse epidemic, starting with expanding education opportunities and supporting preventative and treatment services," said Vitter. "Today's vote marks a strong step forward in fighting the draw of addiction for our families and communities across the nation."

CARA would reauthorize the existing Confronting Use of Methamphetamine law (42 U.S.C. §3797cc), which expired in 2010, and also expand educational and treatment services through existing appropriated funds helping to combat the country's growing opioid use and abuse.
